THE SAM ROSENWALD
SCHOLARSHIP
FOR SHORT-TERM IMMERSIVE LEARNING
EXPERIENCES IN THE U.S. AND ABROAD
Travel programs. Conferences. Retreats. Rosenwald fellows can receive up to $2,000 in awards to make participation possible in a huge variety of transformative and immersive educational opportunities

For programs lasting under three months
The program or organization must have an American tax ID and be able to provide a current W9
Rosenwald grants may be combined with assistance from other sources
Rosenwald scholarships cannot cover airfare or accommodations outside of program costs
Upon returning to L.A., scholarship recipients will be connected with a NuRoots Community Creator or lay leader for coffee
Selected recipients may be asked to write a brief report on their experience
Trybal Gatherings applicants are eligible for $150 off program costs for their first Trybal experience

Candidates must provide a copy of their acceptance letter to the program of choice
Applications can be submitted at any time but must be received at least eight weeks prior to a program’s payment due date. Earlier submissions are encouraged

Known by friends and colleagues as a true mensch, Sam Rosenwald was a committed husband, father, friend, business leader, and philanthropist, always working towards the greater good. Through his philanthropy, tenure on the JFedLA board of directors, and as co-chair of the King David Society, Sam always encouraged younger Jewish generations to take a seat at the table

EXPERIENCES IN ISRAEL
Gap years. Grad school. Fellowships. Semesters abroad. With individual awards up to $5,000, this scholarship makes it possible for young Jews in L.A. to continue their education while deepening a connection with Israel

Must identify as Jewish
Must be 18–39
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Commitment to the L.A. Jewish community, demonstrated by prior involvement or a planned future commitment
Current residence in Los Angeles and plans to return immediately. Gap year applicants must provide proof of plans to return to L.A. (i.e. university enrollment)

For programs lasting over 3 months. Priority will be given to programs lasting 3–12 months
Programs in Israel must have an American tax ID and be able to provide a W9. Marks funds cannot be sent directly to individuals or to Israeli organizations
The Marks grant may be combined with other scholarships and/or grants from outside of JFedLA
Upon returning to L.A., scholarship recipients will be connected with a NuRoots Community Creator or lay leader for coffee
Selected recipients may be asked to write a brief report on their experience

Short essay(s)
A letter of recommendation from an academic or community reference. A copy of a letter already written as part of your program’s application process is acceptable
A copy of the cover page of your acceptance letter to your program of choice
One copy of your official college or graduate academic transcript

The Marks scholarship is an educational grant program from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles
