Jewish recipes carry stories: of who we are as cooks, as families, and as a people. Join us on the eighth and final night of Hanukkah for Schmaltzy, an evening of storytelling, gathering, eating, and celebrating the global mosaic of Jewish food.

Schmaltzy is an original storytelling event series from Jewish Food Society that invites brilliant guests to take the stage to share personal food-related tales—and then everyone tastes the dishes behind the stories. (It’s kind of like the Moth, but with pickles.)

Your all-inclusive ticket covers everything: food, drinks, valet, story performances, and an unforgettable Hanukkah party.

Buzzy Cohen is a music supervisor who came to public acclaim through his winning streaks on “Jeopardy!,” and then became a fan and critic favorite to host the show.

Robby Hoffman is a small ex-Hasidic queer Jewish stand-up comedian, writer, and true original. She was named one of Vulture's 20 comedians to watch in 2020 and has an Emmy.

Tannaz Sassooni is a food writer exploring L.A.’s global culinary landscape, and an interviewer of Iranian Jewish mothers and grandmothers for her new cookbook.

Joshua Silverstein is an award-winning actor, comic, writer, beatboxer, and educator. His performances have received admiration from Norman Lear and Prince.

Nancy Spielberg is a feature and documentary film producer, a businesswoman and philanthropist, and head of the Spielberg family’s production company, Playmount.

Host Natasha Feldman is food-obsessed and works as a recipe developer, food stylist, and TV show host. Her first book will be published by HarperCollins in 2023.

NuRoots + Federation are thrilled to welcome Jewish Food Society to the west coast! As featured in the New York Times, on NPR, and in the Forward, Jewish Food Society is a women-led nonprofit organization based in New York that works to preserve, celebrate, and revitalize Jewish culinary heritage from all around the world. Through a vibrant digital recipe archive, dynamic community events, and the Schmaltzy podcast, they aim to provide a deeper connection to Jewish life and identity.
